What will treatment involve?
To ensure that your treatment can give you the best possible results, you will have an initial diagnosis. The diagnosis provides an understanding of your unique physical profile and lifestyle, including: your current symptoms, family health history, diet, digestive symptoms, appetite, sleep patterns and emotional state. I will also look at your tongue and feel your pulse.
Treatment will include either one or all of: acupuncture, kinesiology (for sensitivities, pathogens and nutritional deficiencies) and EFT.
How long will it take?
Your first diagnosis will last 1.5 to 2 hours. The diagnosis forms the basis from which I carry out subsequent treatments that may take between forty-five minutes to one hour.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone responds differently to treatment, but you can expect to see significant improvements within the first five sessions. You may even see dramatic changes after just two to three sessions. If your condition is long standing it may take a little longer. The aim is for lasting benefit, not just short-term improvements.
Initially, you will need to come once a week, with each treatment building on the previous session. Once your condition has begun to improve the treatments can be spaced out to allow your body's own healing mechanisms to take over. Soon you will reach the stage where you only need to come a few times a year as a preventative measure. You can continue to use acupuncture in this way to ensure that you maintain optimum health in body and mind.
Should my doctor know?
Acupuncture is complementary to conventional medicine. If you have been prescribed medication, it makes sense to let your doctor know that you are planning to have acupuncture. Bring a list of any medication you are taking so that this can be considered in your treatment plan. In certain circumstances, acupuncture may allow you to reduce or even cease taking some medications, but please discuss this with your doctor.
After treatment
Many people find acupuncture relaxing and calming. You may feel tired and sleepy, so if possible go home and relax after treatment and avoid drinking booze, instead drink lots of water. Some people find they are super energised after treatment, if this is you, try not to use up all your energy in an Olympic run, or the like!
